To John Murray 17 November [1856–7]1
Down Bromley Kent
Nov. 17th.—
Dear Sir
I find that I have for little civilities in Natural History often occasion to give away copies of my Journal.2 I hope that you will not think it an unreasonable favour to beg to be supplied with 4 copies in cloth at the price charged to wholesale Booksellers.— If you can so far oblige me, would you be so kind as to have the parcel sent, anytime before Thursday morning.3 (with account enclosed) addressed thus
C. Darwin Esqe
care of Mr G. Snow
Nag’s Head
Borough.—
I do not know whether you keep any account of total sales of Books, but if so I shd. very much like to hear how many copies of my Journal have been sold altogether, if you would be so kind as to direct one of your clerks to put the number on a slip of paper, & enclose it with Books, if you are willing to let me have them; apologising for this trouble | I remain Dear Sir | Your’s very faithfully | Charles Darwin John Murray Esqe
