Chauncey Wright

1830–75

American mathematician and philosopher. In 1852, became a calculator for the newly established American ephemeris and nautical almanac, for which he devised new methods of calculation. Recording secretary, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Boston, 1863–70. Published the first of a series of philosophical essays in the North American Review in 1864.
