George Robert Waterhouse
Naturalist. Curator of the Zoological Society of London, 1836–43. Assistant in the mineralogical and geological branch of the natural history section of the British Museum, 1843; keeper, 1851–7; keeper of the department of geology, 1857–80. Founding member of the Entomological Society, 1833; president, 1849–50. Described CD's mammalian and entomological specimens from the Beagle voyage.
