William Henry Harvey

1811–66

Irish botanist. Colonial treasurer in Cape Town; collected plants in South Africa, 1836–42. Keeper of the herbarium, Trinity College, Dublin, from 1844; professor of botany, Royal Dublin Society, 1848–66; professor of botany, Trinity College, Dublin, 1856–66. Published works on South African plants, including Flora Capensis (1859–65) with Otto Wilhelm Sonder. Specialist in marine algae. FRS 1858.
