Scottish-born Australian vegetable pathologist. Studied at the Royal School of Mines. Professor of natural history, Veterinary College, Edinburgh; lecturer in biology and botany, Heriot-Watt College, 1877. Emigrated to Australia in 1884. Lecturer in biology, Ormond College, University of Melbourne, 1885. Vegetable pathologist, Victorian Department of Agriculture, 1890. Published on rusts and fungus diseases in various crops.
