Naturalist. In business as a grocer, ironmonger, and insurance agent in Epping, Essex. Corresponded with many naturalists and contributed observations on birds, plants, and insects to scientific journals. Founder member of the Entomological Society of London. Published Nomenclature of British birds (1836) and Synonymic list of British lepidoptera (1850).
