My dear Sir
I am sorry to have caused you trouble.— The text & the Plates was sent by mistake, & I shd be glad of its return, as one of my sons wishes to keep the Plates, which,, however, wd be of very little use to the Soc, as they are chiefly a curiosity in the art of engraving.— Kindly give volume specified to Royal Soc.—2

The years are established by the form of the address, with ‘Bromley’ struck through and ‘Beckenham’ added by hand; this form was used by CD between April 1869 and May 1871.
The text, plates, son, and volume have not been identified; the text and plates may have been among the books referred to in the letter to Richard Kippist, 10 January [1870 or 1871]. CD refers to the Linnean Society and the Royal Society of London.
