Down. | Beckenham | Kent. S.E.
Oct 1
My dear Sir
I write one to thank you & to say that the chickens arrived at Down last night all safe & lively.— I am surprised to see the feathers on back of Cock tinged with reddish or fulvous, & shall watch their adult plumage with interest.—2
Pray tell me what they cost you—with carriage, porterage, basket &c.—
In Haste | Yours very faithfully | Ch. Darwin
