This statement gives sales figures for the US edition of Origin. Gray had negotiated the original terms of publication of the book with Appleton & Co. (see Correspondence vol. 8, Appendix IV). Gray may have enclosed the statement in his letter of 24 February 1868, or his letter of 25 February [1868].
