I beg to acknowledge due receipt, by to-days mail—your letter of the 31st. containing cheque for £10.1 I do feel ashamed that I should have occasion thus to tax so heavily your generosity. I can only now tender my most sincere thanks to you for all; and express a hope that you will bear with & excuse me, until I get fairly settled in India, when I will be enabled to repay the percuniary part of my obligations to you.2
Please excuse me writing so briefly as the time is nearly up for despatch of mail, & I am anxious to acknowledge by return receipt of the above cheque.
I am | Sir | Your obliged & obedt. Servt. | John Scott
Thanks CD for loan of £10.
