Darwin Correspondence Project

To John Murray   18 May [1860]1

Down Bromley Kent

May 18th

My dear Sir

I write one line to thank you very sincerely for your too magnificent present of six copies of my Journal.—   It looks excellently, & I am greatly pleased at my creditable appearance in a green coat.—2 With very many thanks

My dear Sir | Yours sincerely | C. Darwin

The year is given by the publication of a reprint edition of Journal of researches.
The 1860 edition of Journal of researches, the tenth-thousand printed, was published in the same green cloth binding as Origin (Freeman 1977, p. 36). Previous editions published by Murray had been bound in red cloth.

Thanks for six copies of Journal of researches [1860 ed.].
