394 A letter having been read from Mr Darwin stating that the Mss of the 2nd vol of his work extended to 900 pages it was resolved that the whole be published in one volume

The letter has not been found. The text given here has been taken from the minutes of the special council meeting of the Ray Society, 23 January 1854. William Spence chaired the meeting, and James Scott Bowerbank, William Benjamin Carpenter, and Edwin Lankester were present.
