My dear Sir

I am much obliged for your note & for your remittance of £188 . s 15 . d 2. to my account.1 I am very glad to hear that agricultural affairs are improving a little. With respect to Rent, I feel sure you will do what is right.

CD recorded the receipt of the sum of £189 10s. 2d. in his Classed account book (Down House MS) on 8 January 1853. His Account book indicates that he gave John Higgins the sum of 15s. on 19 December 1852.
