To John Higgins   12 December [1846]

Down Farnborough Kent

Dec 12th

My dear Sir

I am much obliged for your note & the draft of £185 ’ s 13 ’ d 1, which I beg to acknowledge.1

I am very glad to hear so excellent an account of the Farm House; & I should much like to see it next summer.

You proposed last half year to pay the Rent direct into my Bankers Mrs Robarts & Curtis & I should greatly prefer this plan & shd be much obliged if for the future you would endeavour so to arrange it—

Believe me dear Sir | Yours very faithfully | C. Darwin

My Father has been ill, but he is now, thank God, greatly better; he has had much suffering.—

The half-yearly rent for Beesby farm, CD’s Lincolnshire property, with deductions for Higgins’ commission and a £5 contribution to Beesby school. See CD’s Account Book (Down House MS) entries for 9 and 12 December 1846.

Thanks JH for draft. Glad to hear account of farmhouse.
