Ophthalmic surgeon. Author of works on physiology. Assistant surgeon, King’s College Hospital, London, 1839–56; surgeon, 1856–62. Elected joint professor of physiology and of general and morbid anatomy, King’s College, London, 1848. Assistant surgeon at the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, Moorfields, 1846–51; surgeon, 1851–76. Created baronet, 1884. FRS 1841.
