Ferdinand Stoliczka
1838-74
Austrian geologist, palaeontologist, and zoologist. Studied natural sciences, specialising in geology and palaeontology, at Vienna. In 1860, after receiving his doctorate, joined the Austrian geological survey. Surveyor, Geological Survey of India, 1863. Surveyed in the Himalayas, 1864-6. Acting joint curator, Indian Museum, Calcutta, and natural history secretary, Asiatic Society of Bengal, 1868. Undertook a major study of the Mollusca.
