Edward Wilson

1813–78

Australian newspaper proprietor. Left England for Australia in 1841; proprietor of the Argus newspaper from 1848. Founded the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria in 1861. Moved back to England in 1864; moved to Hayes Place, Bromley, Kent, in 1867. Continued to be active in Australian affairs and promoting assisted emigration. A founder of the Colonial Society, 1868, and member of the council from 1868.
