James Shaw

1826–96

Scottish writer and schoolmaster. Apprenticed as a pattern designer. Worked in the calico printing trade. Began training as a schoolmaster in 1855. After a succession of posts, became schoolmaster in Tynron, Dumfriesshire, 1862–96. Member of the Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society.
