Carl Fredrik Bergstedt
Swedish Sanskrit scholar, journalist, and member of parliament. Studied at Uppsala; lecturer in Greek literature, 1843. Travelled to Denmark, Germany, France, and England, 1846–8. Editor of a Sanskrit journal, a literary journal, and a liberal newspaper before 1855, when he retired from public life, returning as a member of the upper house of the Swedish parliament, 1867–75. Edited Samtiden, a weekly political and literary journal, 1870–4. Promoted religious freedom.
