Magnus Gustaf (Gustaf) Retzius
1842–1919
Swedish anatomist and physiologist. Studied medicine in Uppsala and Stockholm; MD, Lund, 1871. Docent in anatomy, Karolinska Institute, 1871; professor extraordinarius, histology, 1877; professor of anatomy, 1889–90. After 1890, devoted all his time to research. Prolific writer in German and Swedish on anatomy, histology, and anthropology.
