Frederick Daniel Dyster

1810–93

Physician, philanthropist, and naturalist. MD, Giessen; MRCP, 1859. Practiced in Tenby, Pembrokeshire; town councillor, 1866–72; mayor, 1867–8. Founder trustee of the Tenby Museum and donor of a scientific library. Paid off the Tenby Hospital’s debt and built a women’s ward. Encouraged by his friend Thomas Henry Huxley, promoted education of working men and lectured frequently. Donated money to found the Baly medal of the Royal College of Physicians, 1866. As a naturalist, worked mainly on annelid worms.
