Dear Sir

I sent you by post on Feb. 16th a certificate for Mr Swinhoe for the Royal Socy, with a request that you could sign it & return it to me.1 As I have not received it, I am much afraid that it is lost. May I earnestly beg you to inform me by return of post whether you have received it.2

See letter to H. B. Tristram, 16 February 1874. Robert Swinhoe had asked CD to propose him as a fellow of the Royal Society of London (see letter from Robert Swinhoe, 9 February 1874). Swinhoe was not elected until 1876 (Record of the Royal Society of London).
CD wrote on the envelope, ‘If from home, please forward immediately’.
