To Albert Wigand 17 March 1874
Down, | Beckenham, Kent.
March 17th 1874
Dear Sir
I thank you for your extremely kind letter. However much you may have criticised my views in your book, I feel sure from your frank & generous remarks, that I shall have no just cause to complain.1 But as I have viewed all natural objects for above 30 years under the light of Natural Selection, it is not likely that any arguments, short of demonstration, would convince me that my views are altogether erroneous.2 I am sorry to say that I have to add that your book has not arrived, but only its cover. You will see in the inclosed, printed on it “found in N.P.B. (North Post Bag) without contents”. Pray do not inconvenience yourself by sending me another copy, as I can easily procure one from my booksellers.3
Pray believe me with much respect | Dear Sir | yours faithfully | Charles Darwin
