In his letter of 14 February 1878, Georg Michael Asher had asked CD to write a letter of thanks to Galkin-Vraskoi for a box of wheat from the Russian steppe that Galkin-Vraskoi had sent. Asher apologised for this request in his letter of 16 February 1878.

I have learned from Doctor G. M. Astre that you were so kind as to send to him, for me, a box of “Steppes wheat” in order that I might examine the product of this cultivation.2

Allow me to offer my thanks to your Excellency for this exceptional act of kindness.
