2008 essay prize

In 2008, the Darwin Correspondence Project awarded a prize of £1000 for the best student essay on a specific topic in the field of science and religion.

Students from any discipline and at any stage of education were eligible to enter. Essays were expected to use materials from the Darwin correspondence, particularly from the Darwin and religion section of the website, which contains lists of correspondence on particular subjects, other historical materials, and modern commentaries. Essays that engaged closely with the letters, and that connected the nineteenth-century debates about science and religion with current debates and concerns, were especially encouraged.

The winning essay, and information about its author, are available here.
