Why can't I find a transcription for the letter I'm interested in?

The Darwin Correspondence  Online
Database
only includes full transcriptions of letters published in volumes of the definitive

Correspondence of Charles Darwin
that were published more than four years ago.  Full transcriptions will be added to
the Online Database on a rolling programme following at this interval behind print publication.

If the letter was published in a more recent volume of the Correspondence, you
could try to look it up at a library near you. Alternatively, you can order copies of the Correspondence from Cambridge University Press (click here to go to the online
shop).

Additionally, you may wish to consult the two earlier selections of Darwin’s letters
that were published by his son, Francis Darwin, as The
life and letters of Charles Darwin
and More
letters of Charles Darwin
. Both of these are now available online through the Complete Works of Charles Darwin Online.

Finally, even if no transcription of the letter you are interested in has yet been published,
a 'calendar summary' with a brief description of the letter's contents
should be available in our Online
Database
.
